SUMMARY:Featured\, Keynote Presentation by Paul Bannick
DESCRIPTION:FEATURED\, KEYNOTE PRESENTATION\, BY PAUL BANNICK\nSaturday\, March 14\, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm\nA Year in the Life of North American Woodpeckers. \nWhere: Blaine Community\, Center\, 763 G Street\, Blaine\nCost: FREE\, REGISTRATION NOT REQUIRED\, BUT RECOMMENDED\nLIMIT: 100 \nPaul Bannick is an award-winning author\, photographer\, and highly sought-after national speaker. His most recent book\, Woodpecker: A Year in the Life of North American Woodpeckers\, brings together breathtaking photography\, compelling video and audio\, and the latest science to reveal the extraordinary lives of woodpeckers—one of North America’s most essential bird families\, which Bannick calls the “heart of the forest.” \nIn this spellbinding presentation\, Paul explores the often-secret lives of woodpeckers\, capturing their charismatic behavior\, vibrant displays\, and sensitive habitats. Featuring more than 200 never-before-published images\, he follows woodpeckers through every season—from courtship and nest selection in spring\, to life in the nest during summer\, fledgling in autumn\, and the challenges of surviving winter. As an ardent conservationist\, Paul also highlights the critical habitats woodpeckers depend on and what can be done to protect them. \nPaul’s photography appears in numerous popular bird guides and has earned top honors from prestigious competitions\, including Audubon Magazine and the International Conservation Photography Awards. He is also the author of two best-selling books: Owl: A Year in the Life of North American Owls\, a Gold Medal winner at the 2017 Independent Publisher Book Awards\, and The Owl and the Woodpecker: Encounters with North America’s Most Iconic Birds\, which inspired traveling photography exhibits at Washington State’s Burke Museum. \nCLICK HERE to register \nSponsored by: Team Stauffer—Windermere Real Estate \nFollowing the presentation\, Paul’s latest book will be available for purchase and signing.

SUMMARY:Birding the Fourth Corner\, Wildlife Presentation by Joe Meche
DESCRIPTION:Birding the Fourth Corner Presentation with Joe Meche\nSaturday\, March 14\, 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm\nWhere: Blaine Community Center\, 763 G Street\, Blaine\nCost: Free\, No registration required. \nIf you look at a map of the United States\, you’ll see the geographical four corners of the country. The first corner to be colonized/settled was the Northeast\, followed by the Southeast and Southwest. The last of the four corners is the Northwest…the place we call home. It was almost a case of saving the best until last! \nThe Fourth Corner boasts some of the country’s most scenic areas as well as an amazing variety of wildlife. Under the broad umbrella of wildlife is the phenomenal number of birds that are either resident species or migrants stopping by on their seasonal movements. \nPerfectly tucked away in the Fourth Corner is this beautiful area where we live\, snug against the Canadian border with riches beyond compare. Included in those riches are our birds. Joe will show\, through his stunning photography\, the many bird species that are here on full display during the fall and winter months leading up to spring and the Wings Over Water celebration. \nJoe Meche is an avid birder\, photographer\, and writer and has been birding the 4th Corner since 1977 and continues to be awed by the many birds that are here!
